University Styling Project:
Styling Brief:
Styling a partner according to a seasonal brief: a cocktail party in November at the V&A.
To show off the styling, the students will need to produce a series of multimedia posts for a social media platform of your choice.
1 - Video of the final look, with an informative text caption, posted on social media.
2 & 3 Two behind the scenes posts - containing either videos or photos and text captions, posted on social media.
This look was created for a cocktail event at the V&A, taking inspiration from the venue itself and its blend of historic detail and modern design too.
I chose to style my client in green barrel leg trousers, the shape added some structure to the outfit as well as a nod to a more contemporary style of trousers. The pinstripe collared shirt worked well with the trousers, as it added a fitted tailored feel, referencing traditional menswear in a more modern way.
I added a red bow to the shirt by gathering the shirt to one side and pinning it in place. This made the traditional menswear item feel more feminine as it accentuated my client’s figure more. The pop of colour introduced a focal point for the outfit and allowed for the look to play with colour contrast, proportions and texture too.
This look is relevant in today’s fashion industry, it reflects the movement towards more gender fluid tailoring and elevated simplicity. It also aligns with the industry’s move towards versatile statement dressing, allowing the client to use pieces individually time and time again.
