The world of Grease is making its way to Evolution London. Secret Cinema is dusting off their jukebox just in time for some fun filled summer nights! ‘Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical’, a brand-new format of the much-loved 1978 film, is coming to London! The film-stage show hybrid places you, the audience, directly in the world of Rydell High.
From August 1st to September 7th, the creative team behind Secret Cinema are revving up the nostalgia with a six-week theatrical experience that will ensure audiences have an experience to remember. In partnership with TodayTix, the immersive entertainment pioneers are redefining movie magic, by blending screen and stage into a live-action immersive world that transforms the audience members into Pink Ladies, T-Birds and every character in between.
What to expect?
From the moment the audience steps through the doors they’re will no longer be just watching the show, they will become the show. The world of ‘Grease’ has been reconstructed, from Frosty’s Palace, The Autoshop to Rydell High. Every corner of the venue will be filled with energy as the cast bring to life every twist, turn and tune from the original film.
The concept is as ambitious as it is exciting: a full-length screening of ‘Grease’ will play out across screens while actors move in and out of the audience, dancing, singing, and interacting with guests. It’s not just theatre or cinema. It’s both, and something new.
Driving the movement of the production is choreographer Jennifer Weber, whose work has earned her two Tony nominations in the same Broadway season for ‘& Juliet’ and ‘KPOP’. Weber is known for fusing classical Broadway style with her roots in hip-hop. Weber’s choreography is based on sampling movements and beats, her input will electrify ‘Grease’.
Musical numbers like “Greased Lightnin’” and “We Go Together” will be reinvented and performed by both cast and audience. Audiences will be invited to engage in many opportunities to dance, not just watching the hand-jive but hitting the dance floor under the lights of a 1950s fun fair.
At every turn, there’s something to see, do, or dance to. Audience members can follow the story or step out on their own to explore the different venues, no two nights at Rydell will ever quite be the same.
The creative lineup behind the show includes Matthew Costain (Director), Tom Rogers (Set Designer), Howard Hudson (Lighting Designer), Gareth Fry (Sound Designer), and Ian William Galloway (Video Designer). Together, they’ve captured an environment where nostalgia will meet modern innovation and an experience where every audience member gets a front-row seat to the action.
For 17 years, Secret Cinema has been creating immersive experiences. With more than 60 productions under its belt, the company continues to find new ways to turn passive viewing into a celebration of participation.
Now, with the help of global ticketing leader TodayTix, they’re also making these experiences more accessible than ever. This 2025 revival of ‘Grease’ is just the beginning. As the first in a trio of planned spectacles from Secret Cinema at Evolution London, future productions for 2026 and 2027 will be announced soon.
